Transportation within the airport is provided by a Wiki Wiki bus system that transports arriving passengers from the gates to baggage claim and the Inter-island and Commuter terminals.  You can also walk from the gates to the baggage claim area (an approximate 5-minute walk from the furthermost gate).

PREPARING FOR U.S. CUSTOMS AND BORDER PROTECTION PROCESSING AT HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT Aloha - To insure that your international arrival at Honolulu International Airport goes as swiftly and smoothly as possible please take a moment to carefully review the following information. This will assist U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials in promptly processing all international travelers. For information on U.S. Customs and Border Protection rules and regulations visit the Department of Homeland Security website at: www.dhs.gov BEFORE YOU DEPART TO HAWAII (UNITED STATES)
  • Ensure that your passport is valid for six months beyond your intended period of stay.
  • Citizens of countries not participating in the Visa Waiver Program must have a valid visa to enter Hawaii and the United States.
  • You must know the name (hotel or person) and address of the location where you will be staying while in the United States.
  • Return airline ticket or E-Ticket receipt and itinerary will need to be presented at inspection. Keep it with you and do not put it in your checked baggage.
    WHILE ON THE AIRCRAFT ENROUTE TO HAWAII & THE UNITED STATES
  • Obtain proper arrival forms from flight crew and neatly complete all sections on both sides in English using black or blue ink.
  • A Customs Declaration form is required from all arriving passengers and crew even if you have nothing to declare. One Customs form may cover multiple persons as long as they are from the same household. Any type of dutiable good, monies in excess of $10,000.00 U.S., food, plant, or animal product must be declared.
  • An Immigration form is required from all non-United States citizens except permanent U.S. residents and Canadian citizens.
    • White I-94 Immigration forms are required for visitors from any country in possession of a valid U.S. visa.
    • Green I-94W (Visa Waiver) Immigration forms are required for visitors not in possession of a valid visa and whose country is a participant in the Visa Waiver Program. This two-sided form has very important questions to be answered on the reverse and must be signed by the person presenting it. Read each question carefully.
    ARRIVAL AT HONOLULU INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
  • All persons arriving on international flights must first clear U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) inspection. Airline, State of Hawaii, and CBP personnel will direct you through this process.
  • Have your passport and arrival documents ready and in hand prior to leaving the aircraft. CBP officers may conduct a preliminary screening of deplaning passengers at the gate and request to see your documents at that time.
  • All passengers will walk and/or be transported via shuttle directly to the International Arrival Building (IAB) for CBP processing.
  • Cameras and video/audio recording devices of any kind can not be used while in the IAB. Cellular phones should also not be used until outside of the IAB.
  • U.S. Citizens and Permanent Residents are processed separate from international visitors. Airline/Airport personnel will direct you to the proper queue for processing.
  • CBP Primary inspection, including the U.S. Visit process of finger printing and picture taking will be conducted first, before claiming your baggage.
    • Your passport, visa (if any), and entry forms will be processed and you will be questioned regarding immigration, customs, and agricultural matters. It is very important that you answer all questions truthfully and completely.
    • Have your passport, Immigration and Customs forms, and return tickets prepared and ready for the CBP officer.
    • Remove passport covers, sunglasses, and hats before approaching the CBP officer.
    • Watch and wait to be called by a CBP officer.
    • Immediate family members in the same household are processed together and use one Customs Declaration form. Friends and travel companions must be processed separately.
    • US-VISIT enrollment will also be conducted at this point and involves collecting inkless, digital finger-scans and a digital picture to document your entry into the United States
        o When directed, place your left index finger on the glass plate followed by your right index finger. You will then be directed to look into the digital camera for the photograph. Remove any glasses.
    • Upon successful completion of Primary inspection, your processed documents and Customs form will be returned to you. You then must to proceed down the escalators at either end of the inspection area to CBP Baggage inspection.
    • Persons requiring additional inspection and/or questioning will be escorted to the CBP Secondary processing area. Only the person sent to
    Secondary and their immediate family may wait in this area. All other traveling companions must precede though the IAB and wait outside. Inquiries regarding Secondary status are made through the airlines.
  • CBP Baggage inspection is the final step in the CBP inspection process.
  • Claim your checked baggage and then have your passport and Customs Declaration available for screening.
  • U.S. residents must declare all items acquired outside of the U.S. on this trip.
  • Visitors must declare gifts for persons in the U.S. as well as commercial goods for sale in the U.S.
  • You may be directed to a Customs or Agricultural inspection station during this process. Listen carefully to what the CBP officer tells you and do not open your bags until directed to do so.
  • Customs Declaration forms are collected at exit. Tours exit to the left of the building and all others use the center exit.
  • All connecting passengers must check their bags with TSA representatives in the CBP Baggage area before exiting.
During busy periods, it may be necessary for arriving passengers to wait 30 minutes or longer to be processed. This waiting can be significantly reduced if all persons insure that they are fully prepared for inspection.
