Surf's up with Dane Kealoha

Posted on June 4, 2008 14:49 by rnr

There are so many different options when it comes to surfing in Waikiki that it can be hard to decide where to get a lesson or even just a board rental.  Well now beginners, experts, and anyone in between should look no further than the Surf Academy by Dane Kealoha at the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Resort & Spa.  Conveniently located on the first floor of the resort's Ewa Tower right across the street from the beach and run by a legendary Hawaiian surfer, this is a no-brainer.

Kealoha grew up on the waves in Waikiki before going pro and competing all over the world.  After a successful professional career he turned his attention to surf marketing and the development of Roxy, the first women's-only surf brand.  Now, in partnership with the Hyatt, he has decided to focus his efforts strictly on sharing the art of surfing.  His passion, knowledge and experience are invaluable and inspiring to anyone in the water with him.  Dane and his team pretty much guarantee to get anyone up on a wave, and will ensure that their students feel safe and have a great time in the water.

We went out (as beginners) on an overcast Saturday morning with fairly small waves and had a blast--managing to catch wave after wave--and feeling like pros by the time we were done.

Lessons start at $100/two hours, and board rentals start at $15/hour.  For more information on Surf Academy by Dane Kealoha, visit www.hyattsurfacademy.com.
