Tea Time!

Posted on May 8, 2009 10:02 by rnr

In the mood for a delicious, refreshing and unconventional treat? Then head to the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort in Waikiki for afternoon tea at the Banyan Veranda. That's right, the century-long tradition at the historic hotel, known as the "First Lady of Waikiki," is still going strong! The Banyan Veranda serves up an impressive selection of fine teas daily, accompanied by the perfect array of finger sandwiches and pastries.

With a variety of fragrant and tasty teas to choose from, there is definitely a flavor for everyone. After hearing the descriptions of each and smelling them all, the hardest part was deciding which one to try! I ended up going with the Surfrider Serenade, a nice tropical blend of pineapple and strawberry flavors, which was a good choice. Our waiter also suggested the Veranda's popular signature blend, the Moana Royal, which features hints of papaya, passion fruit and the exotic Poha Berry.

I shouldn't neglect to mention how delicious the the food was, too--I loved the open-faced smoked salmon roll and mini croissant with turkey salad, and when our server brought out the multi-tiered selection of scones, petit fours, chocolate-glazed cream puffs and creamy fruit tarts (all pictured below), I thought I was in heaven! Just when it couldn't get any better, the lime-lemongrass green tea sorbet was served.

I really liked the small, tasty portions because if you do it right, you'll be extremely satisfied but not uncomfortably full.

The cost of afternoon tea is $32.50 per person for the entire experience--not a bad deal, considering it also buys you a view of some of the best scenery on Waikiki Beach while you treat your taste buds. For more information on the Moana Surfrider, A Westin Resort and the Banyan Veranda's afternoon tea, visit www.moana-surfrider.com.

Starwood Hotels & Resorts PR ladies Joanie and Candice taking a well-deserved break to show me what afternoon tea is all about.
